Funding and Support

The Open Energy Outlook Initiative depends on the support of organizations that value open, independent energy systems modeling. That support funds our core analysis, the development and maintenance of our open-source tools and data, and the research products we release publicly.

OEO is a key initiative of the Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University. The Scott Institute serves as the initiative’s institutional home and has provided funding, administrative, and convening support for the work.

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is the founding funder of the OEO Initiative. Sloan’s support funded our modeling work, the upkeep of our open-source code and database, as well as the public reports and publications we produce.

Plug Power has also supported OEO’s analysis. Plug Power develops green hydrogen production, electrolyzers, and fuel cell systems for industrial and energy applications.
